Zhangjiajie has become a “geological pilgrimage site” for global travelers with its uncanny natural wonders and the blended Tujia ethnic customs.

A city that thrives on tourism, it’s famous for its towering peaks, secluded valleys, karst caves, and folk culture, and is hailed as the original blueprint of Chinese landscape paintings. It is home to the Qiankun Pillar—the inspiration for the floating mountains in Avatar—and Tianmen Cave, the world’s tallest natural arch through a mountain. It captivates extreme adventurers, photography enthusiasts, and cultural travelers alike.

Itinerary Highlights

China’s first national forest park,Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Aerial drone shots capture the “soaring into the clouds” views of Yuanjiajie, the prototype location for Avatar’s “Hallelujah Mountains,” where the Qiankun Pillar observation deck offers 360° views of rolling cloud seas.

Yangjiajie, home to the natural quartz sandstone “Great Wall,” offers hiking through surface rifts and stone wall mazes.

Golden Whip Stream served as a filming location for Journey to the West, where visitors can walk through the “Water Curtain Cave” amid cascading waterfalls.

The circular glass observation deck offers 360°views of 3,000 towering peaks, while Huangshizhai provides perfect spots for sunrise, sea of clouds, and star trail photography.

Within its 30-kilometer “scroll of mountains and rivers,” the Ten-Mile Gallery lets you capture stunning traditional Chinese ink-wash style shots with ease.

Cross from rainforest to cloud in 3 minutes with the Bailong Elevator, the world’s tallest outdoor elevator, offering a “speed and passion” 326-meter vertical ascent.

Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park

Tianmen Mountain Cable Car, the world’s longest alpine passenger cable car (7,455 meters), overlooks the “Avenue to Heaven” with 99 hairpin turns, known as a “heavenly road wonder.”

Tianmen Cave, known in folklore as the “Gateway to Heaven.”

Glass Plank Road, suspended on a 1,430-meter cliff, features a 60-meter transparent glass walkway certified by Guinness as the “world’s longest high-altitude glass bridge.”

Wingsuit flying, bungee jumping, and racing on the 99-turn mountain road attract adventure enthusiasts worldwide.
